COURSES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Original on Transparent.png

Study in Australia Group collaborates with a broad range of Australian education institutions offering professional courses in Australia. Our course offer ranges from short courses, English courses over Certificate qualifications (3 - 12 months), Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas (6 months - 2 years) to Bachelor and Master degrees.

WHAT IS A VET COURSE?

VET (Vocational Education and Training) courses are courses offered by accredited Australian educational bodies. VET courses have a strong practical content and are oriented to train you for a specific profession. Some VET courses have no entry requirements, while others may require the completion of the equivalent to Australian Year 10, Year 11 or Year 12. You may also be required to submit a portfolio, attend an interview or complete an audition for certain courses.

For our German readers: VET colleges are similar to a “Berufskolleg” or in some cases “berufliche Weiterbildung”. For most of those courses you do not require “Abitur” or “Fachhochschulreife” as an entry requirement.

VET courses are the best choice for those who want to find a job in Australia in specific professional sectors (i.e. hairdressing, massage therapy, social media marketing, fitness, HR, business, project management, carpentry and many more).

What is VET + Accreditation

What is an RTO?
What is CRICOS?

Study in Australia Group's VET and TAFE courses are primarily offered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). RTOs that wish to offer courses to international students must be registered with the Australian Government’s Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). The CRICOS register allows the government to monitor the education offered to international students on student visas in Australia and ensure that it is of a consistently high quality.

Study in Australia Group's VET courses are ASQA accredited and are compliant with the standards of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). The AQF specifies the standards for educational qualifications in Australia. The AQF is administered by the Australian Government's Department of Industry.

Benefits of a VET course in Australia

01

FLEXIBILITY

The weekly attendance time allows enough time to work on the side while studying.

As an international student on the Student Visa (Subclass 500) you can work 48 hours per fortnight during academic weeks and full-time during school holidays.

Many VET and TAFE courses include 12 weeks holidays per year.

02

PAYMENTS PLANS

Australian VET courses can be paid in instalments.

Most VET colleges offer monthly or quarterly payment plans at no extra cost.

03

BACHELOR PATHWAY

Many VET courses at the Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma level can provide students with a pathway into the higher education sector (e.g. Bachelor degrees).

In addition to helping students meet the entry requirements, VET courses can also provide credits towards some higher education courses. For example, students who graduate with a Diploma may receive up to 2 or 3 semesters of credit towards a related Bachelor degree. In the ideal case a student who completed a VET qualification can start in the second year of a Bachelor degree which can be much cheaper than e.g. studying a full 3 year Bachelor course.

The exact amount of credit granted depends on the education provider, the degree and the VET qualification completed. Many VET colleges have pathway agreements and partnerships with higher education providers in place.

04

WORK PLACEMENTS

VET colleges often have a great network to Australian businesses and often include internships and work placements in their course program.

COURSE PACKAGES & BUNDLES

International Students can apply to undertake 2 or more courses on their Student Visa where there is clear progression from one course to another. This is recognised as Course Packaging.

Course packages are typically cheaper than enrolling for the courses individually. With a course package you usually only have to apply for the student visa once as it will be granted for the full duration of the packaged courses. In order to be eligible for the student visa you must provide confirmation that you are enrolled in all of the packaged courses when applying for the visa.

Please refer to the Department of Home Affairs website to find the latest information about course packaging visa conditions.
